Dear Birth Parents,
We're so excited you've decided to visit our profile We are humbled beyond belief by the process and miracle of adoption. We, by no means, understand what you are going through, but we do sympathize and know that this time in your life is a difficult and confusing one. We pray for you. We hope the best for you --no matter your choice. We know that our Heavenly Father loves all of us and because of the Atonement, has seen and felt what you are feeling now. We have great respect for you and your brave decision of adoption. We hope you will take few minutes to get to know us a little better. And even if we are not the family for you, we wish you peace in your decision and a blessed life for your child.We met through a mutual friend while Lyle was in school. After six months of exchanging emails and phone calls, we had our first date. We were married a year later and have completely enjoyed every minute of marriage. Even in struggles,we’ve found more strength and have grown closer together. We are not only marriage partners, but also best friends. We cherish doing even the smallest things together like going grocery shopping or playing games. We communicate well with each other; whether it be a deep spiritual conversation or discussing friendly sports rivalry. We love to make each other laugh. While we have found immense fulfilment in our marriage, we have always felt a strong desire to share our love with a child of our Heavenly Father.
Janie is one of the most compassionate women you’ll ever meet. She has a huge heart and would do anything for someone in need. She’s demonstrated this compassion in our marriage, in dealing with extended family members, and in her church callings. She brings a unique point of view into my life with her differences, allowing us to use these differences to strengthen one another,rather than let them hinder our relationship. For example, I enjoy discussing the gospel with her and listening to her perspectives as a convert to the church. I love her greatly and feel that any child would be blessed to have her as a mother.
Lyle has been a true blessing in my life. Of all the roads I’ve been down in my life, I wouldn’t change a thing because it led me to this wonderful man. Lyle is a calm soul and a peacemaker. He is patient and understanding in all his relationships and dealings with work and the community. Family is his most important priority – that is, after his relationship with our Heavenly Father.His gentle love has encouraged me in times of need, in times of sorrow, and in times of happiness. Lyle is my biggest fan – he encourages me in my talents and he is the person I most have fun with. He is truly my best friend in every sense of the word.
When we found out we were unable to have children; we searched and prayed and were led to the decision to adopt with much peace in our hearts. In friendships and family relationships, we’ve seen first hand the various aspects of adoption.We know that for an adoption to be successful, it requires much prayer and guidance of the Spirit as well as sacrifice; although we realize that we may never understand the amount of love and sacrifice you’ve made on behalf of your child.

Dear Friends,

We are so happy that you are taking the time to read about us and look at our
pictures. We know that this is a very serious decision for you. We
are grateful
for you and your courage, and thank you for taking the time to read about us.

We were married in the Houston, TX Temple in July of 2006. We met on the
internet, weird huh! Amy had just graduated with her Bachelor's in Social Work
and had moved to Mesa, AZ when she met Adrian. He was going to school for
automotive technology. We fell quickly in love and were married just a few
months later.

We have been married now over four years and have so much fun together! With
Adrian's family we do a lot of camping and four wheeling, and with Amy's we
play a lot of games. We are very sarcastic and loving towards each other and
think we are very funny! We are the best of friends. We love to go on
vacation,
even if it's only a couple hours away or camping for the weekend. We love
seeing and doing things new things. We also love spending weekends being lazy
catching up on all of our favorite TV shows.

When we were first married, we knew we wanted to have a family. When our
efforts and time in fertility treatments were unsuccessful, we then turned our
thoughts and prayers towards adoption. We both received confirmation that
adoption was the right choice for our family. Adrian's oldest brother and
sister in law were blessed to adopt four children through LDS Services and it
has been a tremendous blessing to watch other friends and family members be
blessed through adoption. Though we do not know who you are, we pray
for you and
think about you every day. Thank you for considering us as parents for your
child.

Becoming involved in Adoption awareness month by Devin Bird

November is National Adoption Awareness Month! Now many of you reading this are aware of the countless, precious benefits of adoption, but most in our communities are not. My wife and I recently adopted and are very comfortable telling our adoption story to friends and small groups, but are a bit intimidated by speaking to say an auditorium full of high school kids about adoption. Isn’t there a happy medium? You know, a way to educate our broader communities about adoption without putting ourselves out in front of so many people. From exploring different websites and talking with friends, here is a list of some ideas we all can do to help share the amazing stories, blessings and the amazing positive impacts of adoption of the adopted children, birthparents and adoptive families (the order here goes from activities that put you least out in front of others, to activities that put you most front in center with a group):

· Show appreciation to Adoption and foster care professionals (both those who may have been involved in your adoption story as well as other front-line adoption professionals
· Ask your local library to spotlight adoption related books at the entrance to the library
· Write about adoption on your Personal Blog, on Facebook, etc. You will be amazed at how easy this is and at how many positive, delightful responses you will receive
· Encourage local schools to speak to their students about adoption (you don’t have to do the speaking, just reach out to the local schools to remind them that it is National Adoption Awareness Month and encourage them to have teachers or someone address the topic this month
· Ask your employer if you can post an article or flyer on your companies intranet or in the company breakroom
· Talk to your children and other family members about adoption. Share your adoption experience with them (or if you don’t have a personal adoption experience, invite a friend to share theirs)
· Find out about local Adoption Awareness activities for this month and notify friends and family, etc about them (we invited friends to an adoption conference to help them learn more about the experiences we would be going through as adoptive parents and they had an amazing experience and came away with a much greater appreciation for adoption)
· Recommend an adoption book to be read as part of your book club this month
Invite others to attend National Adoption Day Ceremonies/Activities on November 20th
· Write an article to a local newspaper sharing your experiences and some of the facts about adoption
· Wear a shirt with a pithy statement about adoption (e.g. adoption . . . its all about love; or adoption is the new pregnant, etc)
· Speak to a local church group about adoption and its benefits, and how they can get involved
· If you are comfortable, offer to speak to students at your local school or other organization about Adoption
· Host your own adoption awareness activity (bake sale at grocery store, movie night at your house, car wash (in areas where it is still warm, etc.)

And remember, as November passes, some of the greatest work we can do is to be mindful of those children still waiting to be adopted and the amazing families who participate in foster care programs and provide Christmas gifts and financial donations to organizations that work tirelessly on behalf of these precious children.

National FSA Conference Service Opportunity

This year, Families Supporting Adoption will be hosting a service project at the annual conference. Collection baskets will be set up for conference participants to have the opportunity to serve two great organizations in collecting items that they are in need of. Please bring your donations with you to the conference.

The first organization we will be collecting items for is Birth Mother Baskets.

Birth Mother Baskets is a non-profit organization started by Gina Crotts. Gina is a birth mother and refers to the daughter she placed as her "little butterfly." In an effort to give back to the adoption community and serve other women who have placed and may need some additional love, Gina created Birth Mother Baskets. Donated items are arranged into beautiful baskets and sent to birth mothers in need. We are honored to be part of her cause this year.

We will also be collecting school supplies for The Christmas Box International.

The friendly environment of the Christmas Box Houses are unique. Children are brought into the shelter program after being removed from their homes because of abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Instead of spending the night in less comfortable circumstances, they are able to arrive at the House were the staff is immediately available to talk to children and explain what is happening, what will happen, and why. The House staff provides a sense of caring, warmth and continuity at a very difficult time in a child's life.

Currently there are three Christmas Box Houses located in the state of Utah in Salt Lake, Ogden and Moab. The Houses all have the basic concept of a child-friendly, calm, home-like atmosphere and have added programs and services to meet the unique needs of the children in the communities they serve.

Call to Artists and Those who Love Art

We are looking for art to put on display during our annual Families Supporting Adoption Conference this July. We all have been touched by the miracle of adoption and know how bitter and sweet that journey is. This is an opportunity to share a piece of your journey with others. All are invited to share their love for adoption through art, whether by craft, photography, sculpture, poem, or paintings.

Deadline: July 1st

All who want to participate will need to submit a photo of their art through email by the deadline to: cutefamilyof5@gmail.com

Photos need to be added as an attachment and in jpeg format. Please include artist's name, title of the work, medium, date completed, and size of the piece.

Art selected will be on display during the FSA conference at the Davis Conference Center July 30-31st.

All art from children will be displayed on a children's wall.

The Conference will be held at the Davis Conference Center in Layton Utah on Friday July 30, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday, July 31, 2010 from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM.

Are you new to adoption? No problem! We will have classes on Drug/Alcohol Impacts in Children, Infertility-Spiritual/Gospel Insights, Understanding Birth Parents, Adoption Law, What Birth Parents Wished Adoptive Couples Knew, and FSA-Who, What, Where, When and How.

Are you looking for more resources and information on transracial adoption? We've got you covered there too. Classes will be held on Latent Racism & Racism & Racial Socialization and an overview of transracial adoption. We will also have the opportunity to view and discuss the film Living on the Fault Line.

We will also have classes on parenting available to attendees. Classes are scheduled to include topics such as Communicating/Talking About Adoption With Older Children, Openness, Communication Between Adoptive & Birth Families, The Power of Positive Parenting, Ages and Stages and Unequal Adoption Relationships.

We will also have information and classes available on Foster Care, Special Needs Adoption, Children Available for Adoption, Creating Profiles, Intercountry Adoption, Gifts for Birth Parents and Adoption Advocacy.

The FSA National Conference is not just for Adoptive Couples, Adoptive Parents and Hopeful Adoptive Couples. There is an entire track of classes devoted to Birth Parents and Birth Families. For more information on those classes, please see the previous post HERE.

We are excited for our upcoming adoption education classes! APRIL 10, 2010! We have a great line up of speakers and topics. The conference will start at 9:00 a.m. In the LDS Plano building located at 6545 W. Plano Pkwy. The cross streets are Plano Pkwy and Midway Rd.

Dallas Area Regional Conference Information

We are pleased and excited to announce our Families Supporting Adoption Regional Conference -- November 6-7, 2009!

The cost is only 10$ per person for the entire weekend and each day will be packed with fun activities, opportunities to socialize, and informative "break-out" groups.

Friday night (Nov 6) will be a "Game Night/Ice Cream Social" -- Adults only (No child care provided) at the LDS Family Services Employment Center -- 1100 W. Jackson Road, Carrollton, Texas 75006.

Saturday (Nov 7) will be the conference from 9am - 4pm at the Carrollton, Texas Stake Center -- 4000 Nazarene Rd, Carrollton, Texas. (Child care WILL be provided)

Registration (Sat): 8:45am - 9am
Conference begin at 9am.The morning will be filled with everyone meeting together for our key note address as well as hearing from our birth mother panel. After lunch you will have the opportunity to attend several break out groups of your choice.

**Lunch and childcare will be provided on Saturday.
We are encouraging LDSFS volunteers, Birth Parent Families, as well as Adoptive families to attend. We would love for as many people whose lives have been touched by adoption to attend. It will be a great experience and a chance to meet others touched by adoption.

**This conference will count as education credit for new couples hoping to adopt.
***We are needing to get RSVPs pretty quick. We want to make sure we have enough food for everyone for both Friday night's ice cream social as well as Saturday. Please either send us an email or call the LDSFS office at (972) 242-2182. We need to know how many people from your family will be attending and if you will be taking advantage of the child care provided for Saturday. We just wanted to take the chance to thank everyone who participated in the items drive for the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas! They were so grateful for the items we brought in. We ended up bringing in 2 trucks and 2 cars FULL of stuff! It was awesome. What a great opportunity to serve and give back to a place that acts as such a great resource for families and children who are truly in need!

We look forward to seeing many of you at our up coming regional conference on November 6th & 7th! We are so excited about this opportunity! This year we are inviting birth families, adoptive families, as well as volunteers. We are going to be having break off groups on Saturday afternoon with several classes for you to choose from. You don't want to miss this opportunity to reach out and meet others who, like you, have been touched by the miracle of adoption.
This conference will also serve as the education requirements for all couples who are waiting to be approved through LDSFS. This is such a great experience for everyone involved. We look forward to seeing you all there! :)

Hi Everyone!
It is getting close to go time for our Ronald McDonald House Drive dinner. We are excited about the response we have had so far in the form of donations. We look forward to handing over our items to the RMH of Dallas. As a reminder our dinner will be held at the LDS church house located at Legacy and the Dallas North Tollway at 5:30pm on September 19th. That is a week and 1/2 away! This dinner is where we will be bringing all of the donations we have collected for the RMH. We are needing to get RSVPs from everyone so we can know how much food to buy for our dinner. We would like to make this a fun experience for everyone in the family. Please RSVP as soon as possible! Thank you all for your help with this! We look forward to meeting you at the dinner! Ok everyone we are so excited to get things going for the Dallas chapter of FSA again! We have some fun activities coming up that we wanted to make you aware of.

Details:
The Ronald McDonald House of Dallas is a temporary
home-away-from-home that serves
and sustains families of
seriously ill or injured children receiving treatment in a Dallas hospital.

Some of our adoptive couples who have come to Dallas for the birth of their children have been blessed by the Ronald McDonald House and the service they provide. Now is our chance to give back. We will be holding a drive for several items they need from now until September 19th. On the evening of September 19th we will have a dinner for all Dallas FSA members and collect all the items to drop off at the RMH of Dallas.

The following is a list of items that are needed:

Kitchen:
styrofoam cups, bowls, and plates, plastic spoons, forks, knives, ziplock bags (gallon size)

House:

For the health and safety of the guests at the Ronald McDonald House, they ask that the items are NEW and unopenned. They have stringent health codes, and ask everyone to look at expiration dates and recall lists.

We will have more details on where to meet for the dinner coming soon. We look forward to seeing all of you there!

birth families and adults who were adopted. A former BYU football player, author, popular speaker (Life is like a football game), and current LDS Bishop,

Troy has been involved in helping families for over 20 years. He first became interested in this kind of work when he helped his mother, adopted as an

infant, reunite with her birth family. Troy feels strongly that having answers about your family makes a healthy family. He says, "You can't have peace until

you have all the pieces."
